The Hungry Caterpillar!!!!!!

June 9th, 2014

We have had a fantastic day today introducing our new topic ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’.

First we all met up in the hall to retell the story. Miss Jenkins was dressed as the hungry caterpillar so she acted out the story.

Next we went to see a man from Bristol Zoo. He talked to us about mini beasts and showed us a Hissing Cockroach, a Giant African land snail and a Stick Insect. We got to stroke them and some of held a cockroach.

Then we went into the allotment area and looked for bugs. We found spiders, slugs, snails, flies, butterfly and lots of baby frogs.

Finally we went in to the out door classroom. Miss Jenkins played different instruments and we decided what mini beast it sounded like and moved in that way. we crawled on the ground to be a slug. We ran and flapped our wings to be a butterfly and we scuttled around on our hands and knees to be ants.

We have had a fantastic day today and can not wait to learn more about mini beasts.

What do you want to find out about mini beasts?

Farmer Nicks Farm!

June 3rd, 2014

We have had such a lovely day at the farm today. We went on a coach to Lower Stock Farm today. We were all very excited about seeing Farmer Nick again. He was out at another school so we had a lovely lady called Liz look after us.

First we went and looked at the cows. There were baby cows and grown up cows. We learnt that the farm has 1600 cows and that their milk is used to make cheese.

Next we went to visit the chickens. They are all called Mary. We saw where they lay their eggs and even got to hold the eggs and stroke the chicken.

Then after a drink and a biscuit we went into the gardens to look at where other animals live. We found lots of different mini beasts including, spiders, bumble bees and snails. We then went to the pond where we went pond dipping to find animals that live in the water. We also looked under some metal sheeting and found ants, spiders and a mouse!

After lunch Farmer Nick came back and gave us a ride in his tractor. We went around Wrington and waved at lots of people.

Finally we went and built dens in the woods for some teddy bears.

We have had such a lovely day. Thank you to all the grown ups that came along and helped.

Tell Me A Story

May 2nd, 2014

This week we have been making up stories independently and acting them out in front of the class. Here are a few examples:

The Gingerbread Man by Sasha

Once upon a time there was a gingerbread man who was running around the classroom. Next the gingerbread man didn’t like to get eaten by the fox. Next the gingerbread man saw a river. After that the gingerbread man saw the hungry horse. Then the gingerbread man saw the old lady and the old lady made the gingerbread. Then the gingerbread man saw the greedy goat. Finally he was eaten by the fox. And that’s the end of the story. The End.

The Magic Foxes Foam by Leah

Once upon a time there was a fox that was a nice fox. It didn’t eat anyone because it liked everyone and it liked the Gingerbread man. But there was a bad fox. And the bad fox was eating everyone because it didn’t like anyone and it didn’t want to be with anyone and it didn’t want to go with anyone. The good fox has magic foam and it make the bad fox into a good fox. The End

The Bad Fox, the Good Fox and the Gingerbread Man by Paige

Once upon a time there was a Gingerbread man who met a good fox. Then the good fox went to a bad fox and the bad fox ate the good fox up. Then the Gingerbread man went to the bad fox and ate him up. The End.
